Preschool 09-10: Term 1 Overview (Circle Time)

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

We have circle time daily. We start by singing Ring, Ring, Ring Your Bell, we sing the Days of the Week Song and look at the calendar, we recite the poem What Will the Weather Be? and put the weather icon for the day on our chart.

Then we recite poetry and sing songs. Below is the list of poetry and songs we focused on this term.

  • Singing Time by Rose Fyleman
  • Pussy Cat, Pussy Cat
  • Rain, Rain Go Away
  • Diddle Diddle Dumpling, My Son John
  • Ring Around the Rosey
  • This Little Piggy Went to Market
  • This Is the Way the Ladies Ride
  • Betty Botter
  • Hush, Little Baby
  • Kookaburra
  • Oh, Dear, What Can the Matter Be?
  • Pop Goes the Weasel
  • Did You Ever See a Lassie?

We have added some language activities to our circle time. We do a word slide (this term we worked on the –an word family) and we play I Spy with beginning sounds.

We finish our circle time by doing a few yoga poses. I printed out the cards found here and put them on a key ring. We have been working on the butterfly pose, the cat pose, the cobra pose, the downward facing dog pose, and the lion pose.

Field trips are also included in circle time. We have had three excursions this term. We have been to the North Carolina Zoo, the Greensboro Children’s Museum, and apple picking at a nearby orchard.
